New Kids

Introduction
OK, so maybe you're a new or prospective student. Maybe you've been around for a while, but are a bit shy and haven't been to an event. Maybe you just want to know what's up with this group. Whatever your deal is, this is the place for you. This is where you can find out information, ask questions, and get a feel for who and what we are.

University of Texas

We are an official student organization at UT, meaning all of our members are required to be UT students, faculty or staff. However, "official rules" really don't mean much to us and we encourage any and every queer woman to attend our events. UT is so huge that it's often hard for students (especially new ones) to find a niche or social circle. She Says is a really good place to look though! Take part in a few events and be sure to talk to others while you are there. Remember, we're just as shy and afraid of you as you are of us until we both start talking to each other. If you don't like it, you don't have to come back, simple as that.

Austin

Austin is a super-cool town, especially for queer women. If you are new in town, look through the following for some cool things that are unique to this city and state.

  • Austin Citysearch- An electronic guide to places in Austin. Just type in anything in the search field (i.e.- "gay and lesbian, lesbian, etc), and it'll bring up a whole list of great places to visit.
  • austingrrls.com - Cyber-community for queer girls in Austin. This is a really cool site, so check it out
  • Bookwoman - Great bookstore that caters to all queer women's interests. Located near 12th Street and Lamar. Check the website for various events/guest speakers, etc.
  • Rainbow Cattle Co. - Thursday night is ladies night at Rainbow, also accompanied by dance/hip hop music. Or you can hit up the club on Saturdays for some country music. Rainbow is a 21+ club (located on W 5th Street between Guadalupe and Lavaca).

Scared?

Don't be. We're all really friendly once you get to know us. Just stop by an event or post a question to the listserv (you must join it first before you post...click here to find out how). Remember, we're probably just as scared of you as you are of us.
